The Child Labor division was created as a part of the Alabama Child Labor Law to protect working minors. We provide resources that help you understand what hours and jobs teens can work and help prevent workplace injuries.

Supporting our young worker

Alabama enacted its Child Labor Law to ensure the protection of young workers. Employers who wish to employ persons under the age of 18 must obtain the appropriate Child Labor Certificate(s). A Class I certificate is required for employing 14- and 15-year-old minors. A Class II certificate is required for employing 16- and 17-year-old minors. The cost is $15 per business location
