Inspections / Mines

Mines

Workforce Alabama inspects all mine workplaces to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations, protecting the safety of persons working in the industry. In the event of a mine disaster, Mine Safety and Inspection works to coordinate rescue efforts and investigations.

Protecting Alabama’s Miners

Training programs promote mine safety, rescue and first aid. Mine Foreman and Fire Boss certifications are administered through the Board of Examiners of Mine Personnel. Production records are also kept for coal and other minerals mined in Alabama.

Underground Mine Maps

A large collection of underground mine maps, dating back to the late 1800s, is available online. Since the presence of abandoned mines can be a critical factor in the structural stability of potential building sites, these maps are invaluable to developers.
